I love going for a drive with my family. Looking out the window, feeling the sun shine through the windows, and the air conditioning on my face. Watching all the crazy people mowing their grass, having barbeques and running around like a bunch of lunatics.
In case you didn't know, weiner dog's like going for car rides. I actually LOVE it! I like to put on the puppy eyes and the little wimper when I feel the family is about to go out. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Today it worked! We just drove around the country roads for a few minutes. I look out the front window, then the side, then the front again.
The farmers are harvesting their crops early this year because of the drought. The leaves are orange, red, green and gold. Autumn is my favorite time of year.
A Weiner Dog's Life
The life and thoughts of a Kentucky dachshund. You may think I just lay around all day but you are sorely mistaken. Come take a peek into my life, unless you are one of those cat lovers. Weiner dogs rule!
A weiner dog's work is never done!

Playing Dead or Laying Out in the Sun?
There is nothing like laying out in the sun on a warm October day. 80 degrees, the sun is shinning, the birds are chirping and the ground is nice and cool. Don't get me wrong! I love living in the house and enjoying all of the comforts of central air, but on a nice fall day nothing beats sitting outside. I could just lay there for hours basking in the rays of sunshine.
A nice nap in the sun is just what the vet ordered.
Mom checks on me every now and then making sure I am ok. But she knows sooner or later I will come scratching on the door ready to come in.
So no matter if your dog is an inside dog or not, every dog needs some time outside able to get some exercise, some personal space and some sunshine.

Darn Weekends
I don't like weekends all that much. It's not that I don't like my family being home, it's the fact that they always seem to bring home stragglers. You know the type, loud obnoxious boys or girls that make a lot of noise, eat all of our food and SIT ON MY COUCH!.. That's right they take my seat and make me sit on the cold hard floor. Sure they would let me cuddle up with them if they remembered about me, but there is something about the tv blasting and the video game controllers in their hands that make them forget all about me.
I just sit on the edge of a blanket that is hanging from my couch. I give them my puppy eyes but that doesn't even do the trick. It's down right mean to care more about your friends than you do your precious little weiner dog. Down right mean I tell ya!
I can't wait for the peace and quiet Monday will bring.

Think Before You Leap
Its been at least a month ago, but I remember it just like it was yesterday. I was sitting on the couch minding my own business when this no-good stray mutt came wandering up the drive. It took me by surprise I will admit, but I did this amazing leap across the couch and landed on the floor right in front of the window. I barked and barked at the top of my lungs until that no-good dog walked down the driveway with his tail between his legs. The moment was almost intoxicating as I protected my house better than any rottweiler ever could have. Then I noticed the pain. The sharp pain that was radiating in the middle of my back. As the adrenaline wore off the pain increased. I hurt my back. In the line of duty, I injured myself.
I didn't know how to tell my mom when she got home from work. She looked at me and carried on like she always did. "How's my baby? How's my baaaaabbbbyyyy?" I just looked at her with my big black eyes and slowly walked back to the mat beside the sink.
It didn't take long for mom to realize that something was wrong with me. I wouldn't jump on the couch, I lost my appetite and I looked like I had a lot on my mind. Which I did- the pain!
Mom took me to the vet and -after I just about bit his head off- he told mom that I had a back injury that may or may not lead to paralysis or permanent back pain. Mom carried me in her arms out to the car and told me not to worry because she would take good care of me and everything would be alright. She was obviously very upset but she did her best not to show it.
This story has a happy ending so wipe that worried look off your face. I was a good patient and took all of my medicine, rested in my little kennel for two weeks and was no longer allowed on the couch by myself. It was a tuff road to travel though because for two weeks my back legs were numb. I was dragging them behind me when I walked, which wasn't often because its down right hard to get around like that. But like I said, after 2 1/2 weeks I was back to my 4 legged walking.
I have to be careful now that's for sure. My family is always making sure I am safe and now they have baby gates and other safety features around the house. I can only sit on the couch when I am with my family. I stay in my kennel when I am home alone. I can't complain because after this month I know for sure that my family loves me as much as I love them. I still protect the house but now I think before I leap!

The New Couch
We just got a new couch. I actually love the way it looks, the way it smells, and the way the cool texture feels against my belly. BUT!! I can't jump up on it. I remember the good ol' days when we had the old couch and with barely a running start I could jump up on the couch with the ease and finesse of , dare I say, a CAT! But the good ol'days are gone. I feel like that pathetic bassett hound who just waddles around on our porch all day. I have to rely on the family to pick me up and place me on the couch like I am as frail as Great-Grandma. How pathetic! But I can't complain entirely because when the family is home I get to cuddle up next to them with our favorite blankie and watch Food Network. For the most part, life is good.
